PROGRAM GOALS


Master Vehicle Safety & Inspection

Learn to perform thorough pre-trip inspections on tractor-trailers to identify potential safety issues before hitting the road. You'll develop the skills to check critical systems including brakes, tires, lights, and fluid levels, ensuring your vehicle meets all Department of Transportation safety standards for legal operation.


Navigate Regulations & Documentation

Understand the essential federal and state regulations that govern the trucking industry. You'll learn how to properly maintain accurate driver logs, track hours of service and complete required paperwork to stay compliant with transportation laws while avoiding costly violations.


Develop Advanced Driving Techniques

Perfect the specialized driving skills needed for commercial vehicles, including proper shifting techniques for various transmission types, safe backing procedures, and efficient coupling/uncoupling of trailers. You'll practice these skills on our diverse fleet until they become second nature.

 

Professional Truck Driver Training

Locations: Milford

Our program works with donation distribution centers across Nebraska, allowing each class to participate in two to three live loads. This hands-on experience with real cargo gives you valuable practice that employers are looking for.

How long does truck driver training take?


Our Professional Truck Driver Training program can be completed in just 10 weeks. We offer multiple start dates throughout the year with classes beginning every five weeks during Fall and Spring semesters, plus summer options. The remaining Fall dates are Sept. 24 and Nov. 5. Both in-person and online classes are available to fit your schedule, making it perfect for working adults looking to change careers.

What certifications does the program provide?


Our theory course meets all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) and HAZMAT Theory requirements. Upon completion of your coursework, our instructors are third party examiners for the State of Nebraska and will perform the Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Control Skills Test and Road Test for your Commercial Driver’s License on campus using ÅÝܽÊÓÆµapp equipment. The DMV will charge you $59.50 for your commercial license.

What types of trucks will I learn to drive?


ÅÝܽÊÓÆµapp is one of the few schools with manual transmissions available for student learning. Our diverse fleet includes various makes like Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo and more. You'll train on multiple transmission types (9-speed, 10-speed, 13-speed automatic) and different engines, preparing you for any equipment you might encounter in your career.

How affordable is the program?


Our program is budget-friendly and qualifies for the GAP Assistance Program to help with costs. The Nebraska Trucking Association also offers significant scholarship opportunities for students. Visit our program website for details on these financial assistance options.

 

CAREER OUTCOMES

Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Driver

Transport goods and materials over long distances using tractor-trailers weighing 26,000+ pounds. You'll be responsible for inspecting vehicles, securing cargo, planning routes, maintaining logs and ensuring timely deliveries. Opportunities include local, regional, and over-the-road positions with various home time options.

Delivery Truck Driver

Transport packages, goods and materials between businesses and customers within a local region. These positions typically involve regular routes with daily home time, customer interaction, loading/unloading cargo and maintaining delivery records. Perfect for those seeking work-life balance.

Specialized Transportation Driver

Operate vehicles requiring additional certifications such as tanker trucks, refrigerated units or hazardous materials transport. These specialized roles often come with premium pay due to the additional skills and certifications required beyond basic CDL training.

Financial Assistance

Financial Aid is not available because of the length of this program. If you need financial assistance, Gap Tuition Assistance may be available. Gap funding provides need-based financial support for tuition and other eligible costs for short-term, credit training opportunities focused on employment. The Nebraska Trucking Association offers $1500 scholarships for students interested in a career in CDL Driving. This scholarship provides funds for new students to help with the cost of tuition, books and supplies. Submit your , and include a 100-200 word essay and resume.
